If you've read the About Me on my website, you would know that I got my start with art when I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Diabetes is referred to as the invisible disease. Too often, the media uses diabetes as a cautionary tale to warn against unhealthy lifestyles. Never mind that Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune illness that affects an estimated 40 million people globally.
Newspapers and media outlets both in America and around the world are packed with articles advising which foods to avoid to prevent a diabetes diagnosis, the very real problem of skyrocketing insulin prices, and sensationalised stories about people’s untimely deaths due to complications of poorly controlled diabetes.
To give back I have been doing a sketch series to donate have of my proceeds to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. For every donation made you can get a digital sketch by me.
How to get a portrait? - Send a minimum donation of $10 to any of the mentioned pay options in the photo (Venmo, PayPal, or Cash-app). Remember to write JDRF in the notes.
- Once donated, send a reference photo to talaplanche@gmail.com or schedule an in person sketch session!
- Provide the e-mail you wish the portrait to be sent to. You will get a high quality image to be able to print if you wish.
